Critical Arts: A Journal of South-North Cultural Studies
A publication of the UNISA
New to Routledge in 2007!
Keyan Tomaselli - University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Critical Arts has been publishing since 1980. A number of integrated theoretical trajectories and ongoing debates have emerged during the intervening period. Submitting authors are requested to familiarise themselves with these themes. For example, Critical Arts prefers analyses which interrogate essentialist ideas rather than simply assuming them. We prefer it if current authors address and critically engage discussions previously published in the Journal, in their own analyses. For example, the question “What is African cinema?' is a recurring one.
Critical Arts publishes the work of established scholars and is also geared to opening spaces for new, young and dynamic authors, whose emerging work is of critical and theoretical significance. Amongst our authors (and in the book series) are MA and PhD students whose work is often theoretically refreshing, conceptually innovative and critically challenging. Critical Arts provides a platform for such students who need to find their niche within the research and publishing community.

Journal of Intercultural Communication Research

Editor: James W. Neuliep, St Norbert College, USA
The Journal of Intercultural Communication Research publishes qualitative and quantitative research that focuses on interrelationships between culture and communication. Generally, research published in JICR emphasizes non-mediated contexts.
Submitted manuscripts may report results from either cross-cultural comparative research or results from other types of research concerning the ways culture affects human symbolic activities. Studies reporting data from within a single nation/culture should focus on cultural factors and explore the theoretical or practical relevance of their findings from a cross-cultural perspective.

The Review of Communication is a refereed, online only journal that publishes state-of- the-art reviews dealing with all communication issues in all modes of communication. While book reviews remain extremely important to this journal, any communication mode can be reviewed and submitted for consideration in this journal. In particular, reviews may focus on matters of importance to the communication discipline, including pedagogical and other professional issues within the academy, as well as historical events, scholars, or classical texts of importance to the contemporary study of communication.
The Review of Communication includes extended analyses of single books, longer review essays covering several thematically related texts, as well as brief summaries. Reviews of all types of books dealing with human communication, including academic books, textbooks, and appropriate trade books are encouraged. As of January 2007, access to the journal is through subscription. Queries regarding review options are invited; send an email note to Raymie E. McKerrow at mckerrow@ohio.edu.
Manuscript Submission Process
Manuscripts should be submitted online and in English through the journal's Manuscript Central web site at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rroc. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site, submissions should be made via the Author Centre. The "create an account" button can be found at the top right corner of that page.
Manuscripts should be formatted in Microsoft Word in a PC-compatible version (Mac users should be sure to use the most current versions of Word and to end their file names in ".doc"). If you are writing a broader “literature review” essay covering multiple sources, submit a separate, 75-150 word abstract outlining the argument/issue being covered. Manuscripts should be prepared in 12-point font, double-spaced throughout and should not exceed 9,000 words including references. The journal adheres to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) 5th Edition (2001). Manuscripts also must conform to the guidelines for avoiding ethnic biases and sexist language. Manuscipts submitted to Review of Communication should not be under review elsewhere or have previously appeared in any other published form.

Journal of International and Intercultural Communication
New for 2008!
A publication of the National Communication Association
Journal of International and Intercultural Communication will publish scholarship for an international readership on international and intercultural communication from a range of theoretical, conceptual and methodological perspectives. The journal features leading edge inquiry that cuts across academic boundaries to focus on international, intercultural, as well as indigenous communication issues. It invites manuscripts that not only address pressing issues in multiple regions, multilingual communities, social, political, and cultural practices from the standpoint of communication, but it also invites manuscripts that push the boundaries of contemporary work in international and intercultural communication. A nation-state should not necessarily be synonymous with a single culture as nation-states might be more productively viewed as comprising multiple cultures, nor should a culture be thought of as bounded by national boundaries, as cultures may cross the boundaries of multiple nation-states. International and intercultural communication, from interpersonal interaction to mass media, should be considered in the context of contemporary tensions, including globalization, post colonialism, cultural imperialism, and more. Theoretical, historical, experiential, experimental, as well as critical, discursive and textual analyses are welcome.
Initial questions relating to the submission process may be addressed to:
