Track your manuscript online

Manuscript Central, provided by ScholarOne, is an online based manuscript tracking system that allows authors to submit their papers through a journal's webpage and Editors/Editorial Offices can track the progress of that manuscript through the peer review process easing the process for everyone involved.

Manuscripts are assigned to Editors, where appropriate, and then onto referees. The referees can access the manuscript and the report form online to add their comments and an Editor is notified when sufficient reports have been submitted so that they can make their decision on whether to accept, decline or ask for a revision of the paper. Anonymity of referees is maintained and the author is sent comments about the manuscript by the Editor. Each person accessing the site, including the author, has an account with the level of access depending on their rights, for example, editor, referee or author.

Six of the National Communication Association journals have moved over to Manuscript Central and are accepting papers online through their respective webpages. These are:

Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies
Communication Education
Communication Monographs
Critical Studies in Media Communication
Journal of Applied Communication Research
Quarterly Journal of Speech

The site for Text and Performance Quarterly is currently being built and Communication Teacher will also reach this stage soon. Once built, the sites will be used by the Editors to train and test them. Western Journal of Communication, a publication of the Western States Communication Association, is also at this same stage while Rhetoric Society Quarterly, the journal of the RSA, is in the implementation and building phase of the system. It is anticipated that the remaining NCA journal, Review of Communication, will also move over to Manuscript Central during 2006.
